By 2047, no crime in the U.S. goes unsolved.  No wrongdoing goes unseen.  When Dray Quintero learns his 19-year-old daughter Raven committed a heinous act, he covers it up to save her life.  To survive, Dray must overcome the surveillance system he helped build and the technology implanted in the brains and eyes of the citizens.

The Price of Safety is a thrilling science fiction debut that hits a little too close to home in an age when our dependence on technology is becoming alarmingly evident.  Bland has created a terrifying world with potential to become reality in the not-so-distant future, making this novel all the more compelling.

I could easily see this book being developed for film.  The graphic descriptions and non-stop momentum, would make for an excellent action movie.  From the first page, we are plunged into this strange reality of high technology and low privacy.  Bland wastes no time getting the ball rolling.  Every moment is steeped in tension.  With a general feeling of mistrust blanketing every action, each character is called into question.  Some of the twists and betrayals were so unexpected, I had to stop and reread several sections to make sure I understood them correctly.

To say this book is a rollercoaster is an understatement.  I was excited to learn that this is a planned trilogy and look forward to more of Bland’s work.
