Dying sucks. Waking up in some creepy woods with a weird ghost girl who tells me I have to go back? That makes it worse. To learn the truth about my brother’s death, I do what I swore I’d never do. I return home to Farrow’s Square—and flip my car in the process. Just when I think my night can’t get any worse, my dead brother’s best friend finds me and fills me in on…

“For most people, dying was a bitch. For me? It was Tuesday.”

The Grimm Brotherhood Series by Kel Carpenter and Meg Anne includes Reaper’s Blood, Reaping Havoc, Reaper Reborn, and Succubus Blues. This was my first introduction to both authors, but definitely will not be my last.

This story wastes no time getting into the action, starting, quite literally, with a bang. Though fast-paced, the story unfolds organically with plenty of character development. A refreshing take on the familiar fairytales provides a unique world built within our own, the variety of “creatures” making for an interesting cast of characters.

Salem is the kind of protagonist I love to read about: a snarky girl, with more than a little sass, who has no problem keeping up with the boys or challenging authority. The second Hostess cupcakes were mentioned, I knew she was a girl after my own heart. Of course, I loved Graves from the start as well. Their tumultuous relationship provides endless entertainment.

Though there is a lot of action, the story is bolstered by threads of friendship, family, and feminist themes.

I highly recommend this series for fans of the paranormal genre who enjoy aspects of romance with their fantasy.
