Desi Valdez dreams of being a lawyer, but, after failing the LSAT, her life as a paralegal seems doomed to permanence.  Fortunately, California law offers her the chance to sit for the Bar Exam.  She just needs one more year with no distractions.  Easier said than done when Desi finds herself torn between a new attraction and an office crush.

Balancing Act by Danica Dawn is a quick, enjoyable office rom-com.  Desi is a fun and feisty protagonist whose inner monologues will have you laughing along as she attempts to sort out her professional and personal lives.  The two love interests are vastly different and provide an interesting counterpoint to each other.  An emotional, but supportive best friend and a model-hot office rival round out the cast of characters.

Dawn’s writing is engaging and heartfelt.  I appreciate the emphasis of family throughout the second half of the book and am grateful that Desi instantly recognizes red flags in her romantic encounters.  My one complaint would be that I wish it was a slower burn with more tension.  However, the crazy stalker more than made up for the loss of romantic tension.

This is a fun, fast read perfect for fans of Contemporary Romance.

CW: attempted rape and stalking
