Sunday, January 19, 2020 I had the pleasure of meeting Brigid Kemmerer and Breeana Shields at Barnes & Noble in the Christiana Mall (Newark, DE). These are two ladies that I greatly admire and I was so excited to be able to squeeze this trip into my busy schedule (I was at a dance competition in Jersey all weekend, but happened to have a 5-hour break during their tour stop!). I was able to get both of their latest books signed: A Heart So Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer and The Bone Charmer by Breeana Shields. There was also a quick Q&A session. While they answered many questions about their books and even fangirled over the Mandalorian a bit, they also provided a taste of their personal experiences in writing and publishing.

I am so grateful to these women (and others) for being vulnerable enough to share their failures and the harsh realities that accompany being an author, in addition to their triumphs. As someone who has recently focused more on writing, I’ve been doing a lot of research on the publishing world and what to expect. It’s comforting to know that successful authors have gone through the same struggle as everyone else; to know it’s ok to miss the 2,000 words/day mark; to know it’s perfectly normal to get hundreds of rejection letters. I know that not everyone will love what I write, but I’m hoping that others get to read it regardless. Fingers crossed for the future and big thanks to Brigid Kemmerer and Breeana Shields for the inspiration!
