Is it Monday already? I can’t really complain. I don’t work until Wednesday this week. Honestly, I’m grateful to be returning to work. It’s been so weird being off/ working virtually for almost four months.

Anyway, it’s Monday and I want to know what you’re reading. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, who then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date. It’s a chance to check out what others are reading and maybe (who are we kidding? probably) add to your tbr. All you have to do to participate is let us know what you finished reading recently, what you’re reading now, and what you plan to read next.

I’ve had a lot of time to read recently, though I regret that most of it is books for review and not pleasure. I still manage to sneak in some time for myself.

Recently Finished:

When you’re in a near-death experience, people say time slows down. What if time does actually slow down? Or when people experience being at the right place at the right time. What if one could predict with certainty that right time and place?

Sebastian Miles, an adventure-loving, risk-taking marine biologist accidentally discovers a new species that has the power to change the way we humans experience time. While performing research, he and his team are shocked by a logic-defying phenomenon–where during one experiment the world outside their lab jumps ahead by twenty-two hours. News of this discovery soon reaches the heads of powerful governments and inadvertently triggers a global hunt to capture and control Sebastian and his team, their research, and the species. These leaders know that this one discovery would pivot the power equation and the group that controls this species will have access to the greatest resource mankind has ever seen – Time. Sebastian and his team attempt to stay one step ahead of their pursuers, but are they willing to risk their lives—in order to share their discovery with all mankind?

This genre-bending novel leaves readers on the edge of their seat. Thrilling like Blake Crouch and science-driven like Ted Chang, yet approached like you’ve never seen before. A captivating adventure that never slows down and makes you appreciate the scientific landscape of our world today.

I just finished this today. You can expect a review from me by Wednesday. Suffice it to say, this was an incredible genre-bending adventure novel that I recommend to fans of Dan Brown and Umberto Eco.

ACOMAF was an audio reread that I just completed for the fourth or fifth time. When I run out of Audible credits (or money) I like to re-listen some of my old favorites. It’s usually SJM or KMM, although Danielle L Jensen might be appearing on my reread list soon.

Currently Reading:

I’m so late to the Red Rising game, but I’m finally reading it for Haley & Her Book Club on Instagram.

I am also continuing my buddy read of the Snow Like Ashes trilogy with my mom. This book is much slower paced than the first one. I’m curious to see if it picks up in the second half of the book.

Reading Next:

Beatrice Clayborn is a sorceress who practices magic in secret, terrified of the day she will be locked into a marital collar that will cut off her powers to protect her unborn children. She dreams of becoming a full-fledged Magus and pursuing magic as her calling as men do, but her family has staked everything to equip her for Bargaining Season, when young men and women of means descend upon the city to negotiate the best marriages. The Clayborns are in severe debt, and only she can save them, by securing an advantageous match before their creditors come calling.

In a stroke of luck, Beatrice finds a grimoire that contains the key to becoming a Magus, but before she can purchase it, a rival sorceress swindles the book right out of her hands. Beatrice summons a spirit to help her get it back, but her new ally exacts a price: Beatrice’s first kiss . . . with her adversary’s brother, the handsome, compassionate, and fabulously wealthy Ianthe Lavan.

The more Beatrice is entangled with the Lavan siblings, the harder her decision becomes: If she casts the spell to become a Magus, she will devastate her family and lose the only man to ever see her for who she is; but if she marries—even for love—she will sacrifice her magic, her identity, and her dreams. But how can she choose just one, knowing she will forever regret the path not taken?

The Midnight Bargain is my next review read. I received this book from NetGalley and will be reviewing it for the Once Upon a Book Club Box.

As much as I would like to continue my audio rereads with ACOWAR, my Audible has just renewed and I will be starting Empire of Gold next. I listened to the rest of the Daevabad trilogy on audio and cannot recommend it enough.

Well, that about sums up my reads. Have you read any of these books? What are you currently reading? Feel free to drop your own It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? links in the comments!

    1. I hope you don’t either! I’m excited for the next chapter, but not ready to see it end.

    1. Thanks. Sometimes I’m not in the mood for an audiobook, but if I don’t have one waiting, I’ll always resort back to a favorite.

  1. I’m reading Ice Like Fire with you. 😉 I hope it picks up too in the 2nd half too!
