This weekend we passed the halfway point for August. How is your reading going for the month? I’ve finished 6 books so far and, somehow, I still feel like I’m behind.

Anyway, it’s Monday and I want to know what you’re reading! This meme began on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, who then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date. It’s a chance to check out what others are reading and maybe (who are we kidding? probably) add to your tbr. All you have to do to participate is let us know what you finished reading recently, what you’re reading now, and what you plan to read next.

I’ve got a full review of A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow coming closer to publication date. This book is a brilliant addition to YA fiction. While uplifting and light-hearted, Namey manages to tackle several heavier themes like overcoming grief, accepting change, and being open to new ideas while honoring traditions. This is sure to be a fast favorite for fans of YA Contemporary seeking unique perspectives and #ownvoices narratives. It is set to release October 6, 2020.

Full review coming this week. Balancing Act is light and quick office rom-com. It is the perfect sweet Summer read with just enough tension to keep it interesting.

Currently Reading:

I first picked this series up after seeing it on bookstagram over a year ago. It has since sat on my shelf, but I finally decided to pick it up this month for my mom & me buddy read. I’ve only just started it, so I can’t tell you much about it. It’s clearly a YA fantasy featuring the daughter of a bounty hunter. That’s about all I got so far.

The Orange Grove is my next review read. It’s a historical fiction of about 250 pages, so I’m hoping I can get a review of it up this week. Be on the lookout for it!

I am regrettably behind on my readalong for The House in the Cerulean Sea, which is a shame because I’m loving it thus far. Silly me put off reading until today thinking that I would have plenty of time after my baby shower, but not taking into account how tired I would be afterwards. Luckily, this is turning out to be a quick read and now I won’t have to force myself to stop when I reach the stopping point.

Reading Next:

Audible is having a sale this week, so I picked up two books from my tbr. I don’t know which one I’ll read next though. It’s between If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane and Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. If you have any opinions on either of these two, I’d love for you to weigh in in the comments.

Have you read any of the books above? What are you currently reading? Feel free to share your posts in the comments!

  1. I loved The House on the Cerulean Sea so much! It made my heart happy. I don’t read much contemporary YA but my father-in-law is Cuban so anything with Cuba in the title catches my eye. I’ll have to look for that one. I hope your baby shower went well! Enjoy your week!

    1. Thank you so much! I don’t read a lot of Contemporary YA, but this one was so cute. I highly recommend.

  2. I had the first two weeks of the month off and have finished 10 books and 3 comics/graphic novels this month ^_^ Most recently I finished Mexican Gothic, Blood Heir, and The Poppy War all of which were 4 star reads for me! I’m currently reading Arcanum Unbounded and Stamped from the Beginning. I’m going to start Slay for a book club soon and also Where Dreams Descend! The House on the Cerulean Sea is also on my read soon list!!

    1. Everyone on Twitter is talking about the Poppy War so I guess I need to read that one soon. Cerulean Sea is great. I definitely recommend.
